Itinerary
Your instructor will teach you how to assemble your gear, and then you’ll practice breathing on scuba. You’ll practice a variety of different scuba skills in the pool, including:
Proper breathing
Finding neutral buoyancy
Using hand signals to communicate
Different types of finning (kicking)
Using the inflators and deflators on your BCD
Equalizing
Removing your mask, putting it back on, and clearing the water from it
Removing your regulator (mouthpiece) and using a backup
You must also demonstrate that you’re a capable-enough swimmer to do scuba diving. You must pass a swim assessment that requires you to:
Tread water for 10 minutes (you can’t touch the sides of the pool)
Swim 200 yards (there’s no time limit and you may use any swim style)
In some courses, this segment is completed on a single day, over 6 to 8 hours. The open water dives make up the final segment of your Open Water course.
You’ll complete then 4 open water dives in which you’ll perform most of the skills that you practiced in the pool. You might also learn a couple new skills, like learning how to enter the ocean through surf, or how to leap off a boat in scuba gear.

Great experience here getting my two teenagers (13&15) certified. Diving was fantastic and everyone at the dive shop was great.
Paula was our instructor and she was so patient and thorough that it made the experience such a great one for my kids first start to a life of diving.
The diving was also much better than I had expected. Did some great wreck dives and also saw amazing sea life. Saw turtles, plenty of rays, puffers, moral eels etc. Also saw a large eagle ray that was amazing and the highlight was seeing not one but two seahorses on two different dives. I’ve been diving for 20+ years and these are only the second and third sea horse I’ve ever seen and believe me I’ve been looking!
The shop also right on the beach so you walk 10 feet to get on the dive boats. The gear is in good shape and they have a variety of full and shorty wetsuits to borrow if needed. They also provided the transportation to and from our hotel about 10 mins away.
Don’t look any further than Coral point for your diving needs in the area!

Devyn and Elvin were the most knowledgeable and professional instructors I have had for any excursion in my many travels. They are definitely worth working with.

This was INCREDIBLE! I had initially had tons of problems with diving, including equalization problems and tooth squeeze. However, my instructor, Ed, was very cool about it and helped me get my certification. I'm sure that at any other dive shop I would've been unable to get my open water certification. I would like to thank this dive shop and specifically Ed for that. The boat wasn't the nicest ride but the tanks stayed in place and the instructors are REALLY nice! All of them are very professional and show you what they see! I saw Goliath Grouper and a Green Moray Eel and only because the instructor pointed that out! (Maybe it's hard to miss a grouper my size though!) It was truly great. The wreck we went to was called the "Atlantic Princess" and it was spectacular! It had everything from big fish to the massive boat and a nearby reef! The dive shop is next to many incredible reefs and wrecks! ITs a very safe experience with kind staff, and more! Although, Like anywhere in the Dominican I wouldn't recommend leaving items like phones or wallets on the boat! Everything you need for diving, however, is safe and sound! I full-heartedly recommend this shop and again I would like to thank the instructor Ed!

Highly, HIGHLY recommend this dive shop, especially for people looking to get their initial open water certification. My husband and I had been talking about getting scuba certified for years, and finally decided to head to the Dominican to get our open water. We found this dive shop here on TripAdvisor, and all of the reviews are spot on - this dive shop is awesome. It is filled with multilingual staff with exceptional diving experience, all of whom were so helpful and patient with us as we worked through our skills. The equipment is top notch. Our divemaster, Ed, was amazing. He taught us so much, and made us feel comfortable and encouraged doing our first open water dives. The entire experience was incredible. We are forever grateful to Ed, Luca, Paolo, and the rest of the Coral Point staff for opening up this new world for us! Our new favorite hobby!

As a diver with a little bit of experience (70 dives), I watched my boyfriend undertake his Open Water at Coral Point these last few days.
I joined for 4 fun dives as well (refreshing some of my open water skills in the process). His instructor Ed, was really great. My boyfriend speaks little English, and so with the help of a french-speaking and fantastic dive master Clara, I had no concerns with his formation. The quality of teaching, the general encouragement, and the jovial enviroment was fantastic. Kudos to both Ed and Clara for their efforts!
Coral Point is definitely a dive shop I'd come back to - it not a factory, the quality of teaching is great, and you are spoilt with the variety of dive sites (reefs, wrecks, great diversity of fishes!), agreeable water temperatures (even in Winter!), and a welcoming, multilingual environment!

We had a wonderful experience with the instructors of Coral Point Scuba Diving our baptism to the world of scuba diving.
Barbara and JD were so patient and clear with their instruction and guidance. I am inspired to take the rest of the course when I can and I would encourage anyone in for their first dive to do it with the Intl crew of Coral Point diving

Nati and Barbara were great with the kids. They helped them with the diving, and they helped us with the scheduling of classes. Very friendly and helpful. Best dive shop in Bayahibe by far. Highly recommended.

Patri and Ed were the best instructors ever, tailoring the whole course to make it clear, useful, and so much fun! Everyone working there is so friendly and excited about diving. Booking was simple, and transportation is available for some resorts. Highly recommend diving through Coral Point as opposed to one through a resort.
