Itinerary
Live the Glacier from the inside, walk 01:00 HS on it, and walk the catwalks to admire it from another perspective, on the same day. They will not be able to carry out the activity under 10 years of age, or under 18 years of age without the written authorization of the parents, in case they do not carry out the activity with them. Would you like to enjoy one of the most fun activities in El Calafate?
Dare to do a minitrekking in the Perito Moreno Glacier! The tour begins with the trip from El Calafate to the Bajo de las Sombras port (about an hour and a half), where you embark to cross Lake Rico. Groups of up to 20 people are formed, who take a 20-minute walk to the glacier and, once with the crampons on, begin the ascent. The tour lasts approximately 1:00 a.m. and you will be able to enjoy the ice formations; learn about the flora, fauna and glaciology of the region; and, especially, on the phenomenon of rupture of the glacier. Then, you return to the refuge through the Magellanic forest and, from there, you cross the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino to navigate in front of the glacier. You can also enjoy the view of Perito Moreno from the catwalks.

We did the Ice Trek and Glacier tour with Maxi. Her knowledge of patagonia and its nature was incredible (especially in her second language, her English was brilliant!) I would thoroughly recommend this tour and company to anybody

Not a fan of organised trips
Normally long drawn out and slow paced
This was an excellent trip
Well organised /well informative/moved along at a good pace / very safety conscious
The experience was one I’ll remember for a very long time

We did the boat cruise - hike onto the glacier - drive to the viewpoint over the glacier - back to town. While walking on the glacier was fun and something totally different, the highlight for me was actually the end! A series of boardwalks winds down the side of a mountain and you get different views of the glacier - surely one of the most beautiful views in the world. The tour was well run but keep in mind you're in a large group (full size coach bus 100% full) so there's a bit of wasted time collecting/waiting for everyone etc. Don't miss this if you're in the area.

We chose the without transfer option since we had already rented a car in El Calafate. The jetty is a nice drive from El Calafate. You have to pay the all cash park entrance fee of ARS 12000 per person at a park station (as of November 2023) a few km before the jetty The check in process at the jetty is very smooth. They tell you which pier to go to and then you board a nice boat which takes you ashore to the left hand side of the glacier. From there, guides greet you and take you to the camp where they put some crampons on your shoes and give you a helmet. You can leave your bags here if you like. The time spent on the glacier is magical and the guides are very knowledgeable. You have to be reasonably fit and not afraid to walk on an unfamiliar surface. Once you are off the ice, they take you on a walk through the neighbouring woods and you can relax for coffee and snacks/lunch (you bring the snacks) before the boat takes you back. You are then free to go to the pasarelas on your own if you have your own car. I will say this is almost a once in a lifetime sort of an experience - do it if you are able.

Overall a great day. Matthias and Mooty(sp?) were great ice trekking guides - careful, kind and fun.
We spent more time on the glaciar than I expected, enjoyed the celebrated whisky on glacial ice and headed home.
The boardwalks are great for viewing this spectacular glaciar, and the boat ride got us closer still.
Totally recommend the tour — but here is a tip: Hielo y Aventura run the ice trekking. You will see this tour offered by many different tour companies. From what I can make out — what the other companies do is provide transportation to the park and back, and get you on the boat.
Buy the tour with transportation if you don’t want to bother with a taxi, Uber, or rent a car. And if you want to see every street and hotel in El Calafate (more than once) on the milk run pick up — for an hour or more. This happens both on the way to the park and back.
If you just want to get out to the park, see the glaciar early, have lots of time on the boardwalks and do the ice trekking, save yourself a few hours and find your own transportation.

This was an excellent experience walking on the glacier. Our guide Luis was very knowledgeable, informative, and gave good instructions. It is a very scenic setting. The morning was spent walking on the several balconies across from the glacier to get many picturesque views and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we took a boat across the lake to gear up with crampons and safety helmets to walk on top of the glacier. Highly recommend and a good value.
