Stop At: Fossen Bratte, E16 Bergen to Norhemisund Road FV 49 i Samnanger, mellom Bergen og Kvam, Eikedalen 5650 Norway

Fossen Bratte, also called Brudesløret, Eikedalsfoss or Brattefossen is one of the big waterfalls near Bergen on the way between Bergen and Norheimsund in the region Hordaland. Although Steinsdalsfossen is the main attraction in the Bergen region with busloads of people, some people find Fossen Bratte maybe even more impressive. Fossen Bratte means steep waterfall and that is a statement: The river Eikedalselva thunders down in a single drop over 79 meters.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Steinsdalsfossen, Mo ved Steinsdalen, 5600 Norheimsund, Norway

Steindalsfossen is a waterfall in the municipality of Kvam in Vestland county. The waterfall is one of the most visited tourist sites in Norway. From the parking lot, the path goes along the waterfall, up a hill, and behind it where visitors can walk dryshod "into" the rumbling water. Steinsdalsfossen is 46 metres (151 ft) high, with a main drop of 20 metres (66 ft), and has the greatest volume when the snow melts in May and June. Steinsdalsfossen is part of the Fosselva river that comes from the water of the lake Myklavatnet located 814 metres (2,671 ft) above sea level in the mountains above the waterfall. The Emperor Wilhelm ll of Germany visited Steinsdalsfossen nearly every summer from 1889 until the start of World War l in 1914. The waterfall was formed in 1699 when the river found a new race.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Hardangerfjord, Norway

The Hardangerfjord is the fourth longest fjord in the world, and the second longest in Norway. It is located in Vestland county in the Hardanger region. The fjord stretches 179 kilometres (111 mi) from the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau. About 8,000 BC, the Scandinavian land mass started to rise up as enormous glacial ice started to melt. The lower parts of the valleys became flooded, and so created what we today know as the Hardangerfjord. The valley was originally not only made through glacial erosion but by the high pressure melting water which pushed its way beneath the ice.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Hardanger Bridge, Ulvik Norway

Hardanger bridge is a suspension bridge across the Eidfjorden branch of Hardangerfjorden in Hordaland county, The bridge connects the municipalities of Ullensvang and Ulvik. It replaced a ferry connection between Bruravik and Brimnes, and thereby shortens the driving time between Oslo and Bergen. It is the longest suspension bridge in Norway. The bridge is 1,380 metres (4,530 ft) long, with a main span of 1,310 metres (4,300 ft).

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Voringsfossen, Mabodalen i Hardanger, 5785 Norway

Vøringsfossen waterfall is the 83rd highest waterfall in Norway on the basis of total fall. It lies at the top of Måbødalen valley in the municipality of Eidfjord. It has a total drop of 182 meters (597 ft), and a major drop of 163 meters (534 ft). It is perhaps the most famous waterfall in the Norway and a major tourist attraction on the way down from Hardangervidda to Hardangerfjord.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Skjervsfossen Waterfall, Skjervet, Granvin 5736 Norway

On the road between Granvin and Voss lies Skjervsfossen with its twin falls plunging out from a height of 150 metres. Skjervsfossen offers a carefully organised network of paths, stairs, viewpoints, rest areas, picnic areas and parking facilities. The experience of the waterfall will differ depending on your location along the waterfall, the weather, seasons and water flow. At the foot of the waterwall, you can experience the Shower; a beautiful scenic area in which you feel the immense power of the waterfall surging through your body. As the name implies, you may get soaking wet if there has been heavy rainfall.

Duration: 30 minutes

This was a wonderful day spent “chasing waterfalls” with Arne. The tour takes the full day and we were picked up at our hotel. Arne is a great guy and full of knowledge and very friendly and pleasant to spend the day with. He took us to four waterfalls and then in Voss we rode up the Gondola and had lunch at the restaurant (delicious!). He provided great tips (and not just for the tour, but Bergen in general). Highly recommend, much easier taking this tour at our pace instead of with 20+ people on a small bus. Far more comfortable and able to spend the time we want at each stop (we did a bit of a hike at one of the waterfalls). An excellent day trip with a competent and friendly driver/guide.

I’ve booked 2 private tours with Guided Fjord Tours and both are quite nice. But I do prefer this one (Hardanger Tour) to the other (Undredal Tour). The landscape may be is less dramatic but more beautiful, and the waterfalls are among the best I’ve seen. The only negative point is that the journey is quite long, we spent most of the time in the car.

Arne was a wonderful guide that went out of his way to teach us and help our family. He even took my mother in law to the Apple Store after the tour to help with her broken phone!! Above and beyond. The company was great with communication as we had a couple last minute changes. Fjords were beautiful and the waterfalls and hike amazing also. It’s a long day but you get to see a lot!! Thank you again and please tell Arne a big thank you.

We loved the day-long waterfalls tour along Hardanger Fjord and then up the Voss Gondola. We saw so many great things that we weren’t able to see from our cruises that this really rounded out our trip. It was just my husband and I and our tour guide Arne was super personable, knowledgeable, and a great/safe driver. He knew all the great spots and where to get the best photos. He even knew a secret side street and was able to avoid an hour long traffic jam. We learned a lot about the local industries that keep the economy going. Lunch at the top of the Gondola restaurant was delicious…and so is the local Voss beer. We were picked up at our AirBnB at 8:30 and arrived back at about 5pm. We would highly recommend this trip. To let you know what else we did while in Norway that we loved: went to the Bergen historical museum, did the Bergen Segway tour (our first time on one), took the ferry from Bergen to Flam and stayed the weekend to do the electric boat fjord tour and biking village, train ride from Flam back to Bergen, then ferry to Stavanger for a few days, hike to Pulpit Rock, and express bus back to Bergen.
