Itinerary
Guests are received at their desired staring point and shuttled in air conditioned comfort with historical information about the scenic drive to and from The Pottery Garden (coastal and ridge road). On arrival Potter/Instructor Karl Burnett gives an introduction of the grounds and himself as a ceramic artist. In the workshop, Karl explains the basics of pottery "hand building" techniques and then demonstrates making different shaped pieces on the potter's wheel. Now, it is your chance to get your hands in the clay! Have a try at the potter's wheel or hand build your own creation! After all the clay play fun, Karl shows you about his outdoor wood fired kiln and tropical garden. Learning how to throw pottery for the very first time with Karl was an incredible time! I have been wanting to learn for a really long time but could never find anything back home. I was thrilled to find this opportunity in Tortola which was that much more special. Karl is very knowledgeable, friendly and patient to help you make something you will love to bring home. I will definitely go again next time I go to Tortola!

This was the absolute best independent shore excursion that we have ever done!! Karl was so patient when he was teaching us what to do. He was so knowledgeable in the art of making pottery, you can tell he loves what he does and has the desire to share it with others!! Not only did we make the most beautiful pottery, we were taught the basics of the art of pottery making!! We got our pieces mailed to us and picked out a couple of pieces that he made and he gladly mailed them to us!! Karl was the best host, we thought that we were just getting a pottery class but it was so much more!! He gave us a tour on the way to the studio as well on the way back to the ship with such interesting facts about the island!! We will definitely be back to the island and will be sure to book another tour with Karl!! You will not be disappointed, great excursions for all ages!! This tour made our cruise!!

A beautifully unique experience that starts with excellent communication and an easily recognizable meeting. Follow that with a wonderful island tour by a well spoken and highly knowledgeable operator on the way to the Pottery Garden which is a fabulous niche of vision. We knew nothing of pottery and learned how to use a pottery wheel to create extraordinarily unique souvenirs while enjoying a one-of-a-kind experience. Karl is a remarkable person offering an excursion you will enjoy and never forget.

An amazing experience!! We had 3 adults and 1 child and all tried the wheel. Karl was a kind and knowledgeable teacher. We all made pieces we are proud of and will be receiving them, fired and glazed, in the mail! (for an additional fee) We definitely recommend this tour!

We recently visited Karl on one of our cruise port stops and had an exceptional time.
Our family of five along with another family of 6 participated in the two hour private pottery class. Karl was very patient, helpful and extended alot of grace during our experience. None of us had any experience and the artwork turned out great. We loved it so much we had Karl put a finish on the pieces and ship to us. We highly recommend Karl and the pottery experience. You won't be disappointed and it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!!

Our family of five did the two hour private pottery class with Karl and it was an awesome experience! Only one of us had ever done anything with clay and it was no problem! Karl gave us the choice of hand building or trying the wheel and three of us tried the wheel and two hand built. Karl was a great instructor and had the two newbies on the wheel throwing a great little bowl! You should do this experience, we are not super creative and had no pottery experience but it was one of the highlights of the trip!!

We truly enjoyed every second of our pottery class. Amazing customer service, great vibes, and a dope experience. Karl is the absolute best! In addition to learning how to use the pottery wheel, we also learnt so much more about the history of the island.

This was the BEST excursion we have ever done on a cruise. We were really nervous not booking through the cruise line, but so thankful we took the chance on this experience. Karl was fantastic! The Pottery Garden is a beautiful respite. We are history buffs and also really enjoyed the driving tour of the island and in depth history. We plan on selecting this tour again when we head back to Tortola. This is a phenomenal experience!! Thank you Karl!

This is a must when visiting Tortola. From start to finish Karl made this an unforgettable experience. His insightful commentary on the island's history and landmarks during the journey to and from his studio adds an extra layer of delight. The pottery session itself was a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Karl expertly guides you through the entire clay-throwing process, offering hands-on assistance as needed. Our family, including my 8 and 10-year-olds, created amazing pieces! We wish we could have stayed longer at his studio but had to make sure to catch our cruise ship. Karl's enthusiasm for pottery has sparked a new passion in us. Already planning to explore local pottery experiences back home. Thanks, Karl, for a memorable time!

I simply cannot explain enough as to how amazing Karl was, with the cultural tour of the island, and the private pottery tour! His in depth knowledge of both areas was beyond my expectations, and will be talking about this for years to come!
