Itinerary

We'll pick you up and drive through the Alaska Native Tlingit village of Hoonah before merging onto old logging roads that will take us to a remote river where we'll fish for Salmon and/or Trout. The beautiful river is in the Tongass National Forest on Chichagof Island.

During the car ride and along the river it is common to spot wildlife- the island has more brown bears per square mile than almost anywhere else on the planet. Depending on the time of year, we can watch salmon spawn and look for wild berries to eat.

Upon arriving at the river, we'll put on our waders and walk a short distance to the first fishing hole where we'll fish for Salmon and/or Trout. We can stay at one spot for the duration of the trip, or we can walk along the river to fish in multiple spots.

After fishing and looking for bears along the river, we'll drive the old logging roads back to Hoonah and drop you off at the port or your desired destination in Hoonah.

Our experience with Natalie was once in a lifetime! My husband and I wanted so much to fly fish in Alaska and Natalie made that happen! She went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience. If we are ever back in Alaska we will 100% be booking another trip with Natalie! Can’t recommend enough- you will not be disappointed!

Natalie was an awesome guide! She put us on a lot of fish and explained everything perfectly. Natalie also took us through her town and explained some history and fun facts. She above and beyond and took us to several locations to view brown bears. Natalie was very kind and very good at her craft… I would highly recommend her! Thanks Natalie from Kari, Jen, short Dave, and Big Dave! Grin

Natalie took us bear watching on both private and public lands. The tour included a river crossing (wearing waders provided by Natalie) and hiking along river banks. The first bear we saw was about 20 feet away while riding in the back of Natalie’s great truck! It was AMAZING. The second bear sighting was along the river bank. Natalie told us if we would wait just a few minutes, the bears would come out in search of food. Sure enough about 10 minutes later, there was a bear! The third bear was in a shallow river bed and was huge!! We also saw eagles during our tour. Natalie was informative and a great and helpful tour guide. We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend NatVenture.

The highlight of our weeklong cruise to Alaska was our bear watching excursion with Natalie!! She is a wonderful guide and gave us a very personalized tour. It was also great that she took us to remote areas most cruise passengers never see and that she knows all about the local plants and animals. It was a GREAT DAY!!! … even BEFORE we saw a bear at the very end of our time with her. We have already told many people about our great time with you and hope they get to meet you soon. Thank you again Natalie!!!

Natalie, our guide, was really friendly great to work with. Within an hour of booking the trip, she was reaching out, to find out what we were looking for, and making sure we knew what to expect. We told her we're not regular anglers, and were really interested in seeing the wildlife, and trying something new. We were really hoping to see some bears. We were picked up outside Icy Strait point and drove about an hour to the fishing spot. We made a small trek to a spot with some nice views, and hopefully some bears. While we didn't see a bear we did see a seal there. Back at the fishing location, we donned the waders Natalie provided, and made our way to the lake. She taught the less experienced ones how to use the gear, got them setup and used to it while on shore, then had everyone get in the water. The kids were able to hook a couple of fish, which excited them. I had never fly fished before, so she showed me how, and I gave it a shot for a little while. Her patience was greatly appreciated, and I'm sure we provided her a few laughs. On the way back to Icy Strait Point, we saw some black tail deer. If I had to give a downvote for anything it would be the amount of time driving to and from the fishing location. With that said, even though we didn't see any bears (the group before ours did), which is out of her control, it was still a fun experience. The business is 100% owned and operated by Natalie, and she is obviously working hard to do a good job. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a different, more personalized experience.
