Itinerary
The hiking path starts from the lake of Zaros and it is part of the E4 trail. We follow the path in the gorge of Agios Nikolaos, where we walk along the river bed, which has a lot of water on spring and several waterfalls and ponds are formed. After 2 hours (almost 5 km) we will find ourselves at the enchanting holly forest of Rouvas. At Ai Giannis, we will find a landscaped picnic area. There is a mountain shelter, toilets, benches and a spring where we can enjoy a brief snack.
At this point we will have to decide if we will continue to the location “Dyo Prini”, where we can admire the view to the forest of Rouvas, Zaros and Messara plane, or if we will return to the lake.

The hike was a challenge for me at age 76. Pictures show people walking in open spaces with rocky background as well as in and through the rocks, but it is mostly the later. Sometimes the route is over and through large stones with no stairs or path. This was a new form of “hiking” for me. Chryssa, my guide was spectacular in knowing the gorge and aiding me when necessary and advising technique.

C’était extraordinaire! Le paysage, les chèvres, la senteur du thym, plusieurs de nos sens sont sollicités! Assez difficile comme randonnée! Notre guide Nick était très attentionné et aidant!

Belle randonnée au départ d'un lac reposant où l'on peut se restaurer de truites
En pleine c
ur mieux vaut débuter la randonnée après avoir dégusté une truite sur la terrasse ombragée.. Les gorges seront plus à l'ombre que le matin
Par contre si aucune difficulté rando assez longue et je ne comprends pas ceux qui disent avoir fait la montée en 1h30 car si vous ne cherchez pas l'exploit sportif et si vous voulez profiter de la nature.. Il faut compter le double
Rando faite début octobre et on a eu très chaud
Être bien chaussé et prendre de l'eau
Le resto au lac vend nourriture et boissons à emporter
Quant aux truites on peut les manger à tout heure
Chemin bien marqué par ronds rouges et blancs et départ au fond du lac derrière le resto

Une randonnée sans grosses difficultés, avec des parties ombragées qui débouchent sur des paysages remarquables ! Le retour au lac est très agréable pour les jeunes avec les jeux à disposition. Prenez de l'eau et des ravitaillements. Et des baskets bien sûr.
