Scuba Diving Experience for Beginners

We had a fantastic couple of days with the Madeira Divepoint team. My partner has his advanced open water qualification but hadn’t dived for a good few years, and I had never dived before. We had an intro dive together, practising the basics in the pool and then dived in the house reef with Mark. It was a great first dive for me, and a good refresher for my partner. The next day he went on a Shipwreck dive and I was able to work towards my open water qualification with three dives with Mark and then Wilfred in the afternoon. I felt safe and in good hands throughout the whole thing. It was also my partners birthday and they really provided a great day for him with a surprise ‘happy birthday’ message underwater. We would both happily recommend Madeira Divepoint for beginners like me and for more experienced divers. Plenty of wildlife to see too. Thanks again team, we hope to come back! 🐠🐡🦑

This is an activity that is a must do while you vacation in Madeira. The instructor and I went through the basics of scuba diving and important things to keep in mind. We then spent about 30 minutes in a saltwater pool to get familiar with the needed equipment. Here we practiced swimming with flippers, taking the mouthpiece in and out and what to do in situations that may arise while diving. After a while, we went down the ocean and hopped in. We spent nearly an hour swimming around the coastline of Funchal exploring the sea life. We saw all kinds of fish, starfish, and other marine life. The whole time, the instructor stayed close by in case an emergency came about. He consistently checked in with me to make sure that I was comfortable and safe. I quickly became comfortable even though I have never been scuba diving before. This is great for all skill levels and is certainly an experience that you have to have while you are in town.

Let me say upfront that I decided to do the PADI Scuba Diver after this which means I booked one more dive with them. If you do this early in your trip you can even do the Open Water Diver (google PADI if interested). The team was very professional with everyone being really nice and in a good mood and ready to help with any problems. You have to fill out some questions about your health so make sure you don't have any illnesses that might prevent you from diving. We started with some basic theory about diving and after that went to the pool for the first exercises. Every step was explained and also shown before I had to do it. The teacher was with me all the time so it felt 100% safe at any point. Before going to the sea he made sure I felt safe and not anxious. We went over a few rules again. The hotel has a small reef upfront so this is where we went in. It was an amazing experience to bee in the sea the first time! You can see different fish and if you're lucky even octopus and sea horse. I wanted to see everything but at the same time you are really focused on breathing, the pressure and everything else. It's a little like driving for the first time - the view is not the most important thing. My lessons were in English but they offer German and other languages as well. Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone at Madeira Divepoint for making our diving so enjoyable. They looked after us really well both in & out of the water. This was our 8th diving holiday with them &, as always, we had a great time. We keep coming back because they offer safe diving & excellent customer service. We have some of our own gear but we hire wetsuits, BCDs & fins. All the rental equipment is in good condition. We were in Madeira for two weeks & we did 14 dives – they were very good about trying to offer us a variety of dive sites so that we weren’t doing the same ones all the time. If they have a mixed ability group then they send 2 or more guides so that they can split the group up & everyone gets a dive that is appropriate for their qualification & experience level. In addition to guided dives & courses for qualified divers, they offer Discover Scuba Diving courses for those who want to give scuba diving a try without doing the full open water course. Whether you are a qualified diver or looking to try diving for the first time, I would highly recommend Madeira Divepoint.

This is an amazing experience I would recommend to try you are looked after right from the start you have a theory talk first covering all safety then you supply all the gear you need and in to the pool and if everything is good you head out to the sea where we had a 30 min dive or until my air got low and we were guided back to the shore it was amazing to see all the wild life and I never once felt unsafe we had one person who did not feel confident to go out after the swimming pool session they were really good with her and no pressure and even offered to have another go in the pool instead of the sea. It is so far the best thing I have done in Madeira lovely people thank you so much.

Very proficient and professional staff. Very well equipped dive business and all of good standard. I did five dives and nitrox was checked before signing off. Everything was explained and I had no issues. I found the staff to be very knowledgeable and very helpful. As a dive business they have to take customers of all levels and more experienced divers have to accept this; this may limit some of the dives. The dives were good and I had nothing to complain about. I booked the six dive package with my own equipment and after doing five dives still had to pay Euro81 for boat fees (Euro47.20 per dive). So the price on the website is not what you will eventually pay. This needs to be more transparent. Another frustration is cash only at the dive store -read I to that what you will. Overall, well worth doing and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

C'était ma 1ère plongée, nous étions 3 (un couple et moi) avec le moniteur, c'est mieux je pense quand il n'y a pas trop de monde en même temps. Nous avons commencé par une visite de l'aquarium commenté par notre guide, très appréciable, puis nous avons appris les bases de l'équipement. Ensuite une première plongée dans la piscine naturelle Velhas, où on peut s'entraîner et nager avec les poissons de la piscine, c'est déjà très impressionnant et joli. Nous sommes allés plonger avec les poissons dans l'aquarium de Madère (manta, bonite, requins, murènes,... 😍) Le guide est très sympa, il parle français Au début je voulais réserver un baptême dans les autres companies mais j'ai préféré celle de l'aquarium pour nager avec des espèces qu'on ne retrouve pas forcément dans les autres compagnies.

Belle plongée dans l'House reef du club. Parfait pour une reprise en douceur. Nous n'avions pas plongé depuis 8 ans. Tao, notre guide, a pris le temps de nous faire un rappel complet. Ses explications ont été très pro, claires et précises. Il s'est montré patient et à l'écoute, nous avons pu plonger rassurés et en confiance. Les poissons étaient au rendez-vous, quelques barracudas en prime, une magnifique murène, jolie grotte et j'en passe... Nous ne pouvons que recommander ! Julie et Nicolas
