Stop At: Jose Maria de Fonseca, Rua Jose Augusto Coelho 11 13 Vila Nogueira, Azeitao 2925 Portugal

A family business with almost two centuries of history that, without ever resting on the glories conquered, has been able to modernize. José Maria da Fonseca has been operating wine since 1834, the fruit of the shared passion of a family that has preserved and projected the memory and prestige of its founder. Conscious of the responsibility of being the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca has a philosophy of permanent development, which makes it invest more and more in research and of production, combining the most modern techniques with traditional knowledge. An example of this is the Adega José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots keeps abreast of the latest technology.

Stop At: Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal, Estrada Nacional 10, Vila Nogueira de Azeitao 2925-901 Portugal

The building is a glazed hexagon where innovative solutions for design and execution have been found, both in the cellar area and in the office area. They reveal a creativity and a sense of efficiency where they marry the magical and traditional environment of the cellars where lie thousands of bottles and a real armada of barrels of wine stage.

An enjoyable experience. Our driver was first class and did a brilliant job! The Fonseca tour was enjoyable, but the wine tasting at the end was very poor. 2 x average wines with no explanation. They missed an opportunity for us to taste and buy their better wines!

Dioggo was our tour guide and was amazing! He was so sweet, knew so much about the wineries and Portugal and always had a smile on his face! Took us to 2 different wineries, very different from each other and we loved them both. Thank you! I highly, highly recommend this wine tour!

I enjoyed this tour our driver picked us up from the hotel and drove us to the first Winery. The host showed us how the process goes and we got to taste three wines. Afterward we went to another winery which is the oldest in the country. Here we got history of the winery and learned about their processes. Of course we got a bottle to take back home.

Fernando was an excellent guide and helped me work on my Portuguese a bit. The winery tour at Jose Maria da Fonseca was beautiful and very informative, and the wines were nice. The tour at the other winery felt rushed and was not as well organized. Overall, it was a worthwhile half day tour.

Our driver, Thomas, was very knowledgeable about so much of the Portuguese history. He was very helpful and efficient. The two wineries were each very different, one very rich in history and one rich in art. The wines themselves were mediocre at best. But the wineries themselves made up for what the wine was lacking. I would recommend this half-day trip as a great option for getting out into a very nice area of Portugal, not far from Lisbon. Cheers!
