Enjoy a delicious dinner banquet with a different cuisine each time and support refugees!

Join a small group and enjoy a tasty two or three course banquet at bohemian cafe Parliament on King. You’ll sample food from the homelands of asylum seekers and refugees (think Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinean, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Ugandan and more).

Each dinner banquet has a different chef and menu, and we often keep it a surprise until the night. Vegetarians, vegans and guests with other dietary requirements are more than welcome – just let us know in advance.

Your hosts will invite the chefs to share their stories, and you’re more than welcome to ask them questions about the food they’ve prepared and their stories of how they have come to Australia.

The dinner is hosted in the cosy front room of Parliament on King. Parliament on King’s mission is simple: to make lovely food. But in doing this they address the barriers to economic, social and cultural participation asylum seekers, refugees and recent arrivals to Australia face, by providing real work, training and community.

All proceeds from this event go towards funding Parliament on King’s important work.

We had an amazing experience at Parliament on King with Nadya, a chef from Pakistan, cooking a family recipe to us. A big thanks to Lucy from Local Tours and Ravi from Parliament on King.

Last night I had a delicious dinner at Parliament on King. It is a social enterprise restaurant/cafe in Newtown owned by Ravi. On weekends it is a cafe and a second hand book store, on Saturday night it becomes a soup kitchen, then once a month it is a restaurant serving delicious food prepared by refugees. Justin from Local Sauce Tours stepped in a few years ago to help Ravi host the dinners, Our chef for the evening was from Pakistan and we were served a delicious 3 course meal. It was a great night with wonderful food and great company. Ravi also comes and joins the diners and tells the interesting story behind the cafe. I'd highly recommend this unique and somewhat quirky dinning experience, and at the same time helping a worthy cause.

What a wonderful evening we had! Our group (about 15 of us) had the use of the cosy and quirky dining room which was lined with books. It was on King Street, Newtown but felt like we were a world away. Justin, our host, was super personable and had the right balance of information and mingling. The program they are running is wonderful and so very needed. Rehanna was our amazing chef... you'd be in very good hands if you are lucky enough to have her for your evening. The food was delicious. Everyone went back for seconds! I am already planning our next dinner. Thank you!

I can highly recommend the Refugee Chef Dinners having been to two now. Great unique experience with tasty home cooked food. Justin, the cafe owner and the chef do a great job explaining the food and the back story and the food is always fantastic and plenty of it.
