Stop At: Castelo de Almourol, Praia do Ribatejo 2260 Portugal
We start this awesome medieval journey towards Almourol Castle, one of Portugal’s trademarks and most famous ‘postcards’ in the country. Erected 18m (60 ft) above sea level this small granite island has 310m (1.000 ft) long by 75m (245 ft) wide in the middle of the Tagus River waterway.
Duration: 50 minutes
Stop At: Tomar, Tomar, Santarem District, Central Portugal
Tomar was a land given as a fief to the Templars. It was especially important in the 15th century when it was a center for Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, the organization that succeeded the Templars in Portugal.
In here we can visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, the headquarters of the Knights Templar and a pantheon of all Grand Masters.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Igreja de Santa Maria dos Olivais, Avenida da Horta D'El Rei, Tomar 2300-304 Portugal

Stop At: Convento de Cristo, Igreja do Castelo Templario, Tomar 2300-000 Portugal
We finish this day in a great fashion: The Convent of Christ is a magnificent monument, a Templar stronghold back in the day, constructed under the orders of Gualdim Paes and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Was amazed to see the castles and the church, but was a little disappointed to find out that most of it was not original and it just had been rebuilt. The guide was amazing very knowledgable and informative

The Knights Templar and Order of Christ were very well done. A bit of a drive pre and post, but Daniel was very informative during the trip and the visits were excellent. The castle was for restricting movement and not a village. A bit of a hike up and down to the fortification, but all right on a late spring day. The village was in nearby Tomar and the church, signal tower, and convent were just as imagined. Daniel facilitated a lunch at a local spot and all enjoyed their food.

Miguel made the Templars come to life.
The places we visited were awesome but needed the expert narration to make them more than just sites and buildings.
Thanks to Miguel for making the day special for the group.

Without the background information about the history of the Templars, I would not have fully appreciated the amazing places we visited. Ricky was not just knowledgeable, but a skilled teacher who welcomed questions and discussion. I also appreciated his recommendation of restaurant and menu choices. I would give this tour my highest recommendation.

Ricky was an amazing guide with vast knowledge of Portuguese history and Templar. He was patient with us as we were late to the meeting place. I wouldn’t go to Tomar without a knowledgeable guide.
