Itinerary

Participants will get hands on guidance from an experienced fly fishing guide. We provide waders, boots, rods, reels, and flies. The guide will assist with all aspects of the trip including fishing site selection, casting basics, and landing and releasing the fish.

Participants will follow the guide from Gatlinburg into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While many trips will head for the clear waters of the Little River in Elkmont, the actual destination will depend on the participants' fishing goals (type of trout, desire for more or less hiking to the fishing location) and current water conditions.

GSMNP Parking Pass Required- A parking pass from GSMNP is required for this activity. Details about the parking pass including online purchases can be found at https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/fees.htm. Consult the National Park Service website for details. Parking pass prices currently start at $5 but some guests may qualify for a free pass or be exempt from the parking pass requirement.

TN or NC Fishing License Required - A Tennessee Fishing License can be bought here. This license can be purchased the same day as your fishing trip and can be displayed digitally on your phone as a screenshot. TWRA offers a basic fishing license, which is sufficient for this guided activity, as well as supplements for trout fishing. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park does not require a licensing supplement for trout fishing within the national park, though this may be needed if you intend to use your fishing license outside the national park before or after your tour. Consult the TWRA for other restrictions associated with your fishing license. https://gooutdoorstennessee.com/

What a great experience we had fishing with Wes. He was very informative about the park, and put us on several spots to catch some brook trout. My 9 year old son had an amazing time. Wes really made the day about him and was very patient with a rambunctious boy. Can’t say enough good things about the day, it was awesome. If you ever want to go fishing around the Smoky Mountains I highly recommend booking a trip with Wes.

I've lived here for years and love to fish, but was raised/learned how to fish in Florida. I had no idea what I was doing trying to catch trout. After spending the day with Wes it's no wonder why I never had much luck in these streams. With instruction from Wes I've never had so much action on my line in these streams in all my time fishing them. It finally took my wife surprising me for my 50th birthday with this trip for this to happen. Why do we put off experiences in life and make excuses? So, yes, now you need to call SMG, ask for Wes and book a trip upstream.
