Stop At: Piazza Motta, Orta San Giulio Italy
The small town of Orta San Giulio is a one of the top destinations for tourists visiting our region.
A favourite place for romantic souls, the village is a maze of picturesque streets and little squares with craft boutiques, antique shops and lively cafés.
At the center of the town you will find Piazza Motta, pulsating heart of the life of the village, from which the connections for the Island of San Giulio begin; it overlooks the Broletto or Palace of the Community (on the facade you can admire the city crest), in which in the Middle Ages the power was exercised.
In front of the Broletto begins an uphill road called 'Motta' from which you reach the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta (1485).

Giulia was fabulous. She brought us around the village and the island and was so knowledgeable about the area. We had a great afternoon with her.

We took a 3 hour tour with Giulia Ferrari and she is awesome! Giulia knows all the history of San Giulio including the chapels honoring St. Francis of Assisi. We also took a boat with her to the island of San Giulio to tour the church and the grounds of the convent there. We stopped for cappuccino at the cafe on the island and it was quaint with a gorgeous view. Giulia is very knowledgeable about the local area and gave reliable recommendations for good quality hotels, restaurants, and shopping in the region. She is a pleasure to talk to, speaks English very well, and we highly recommend her!
