You will learn about why animal conservation is important, how it should be done, and what impact you are making while enjoying yourself with our friendly guide, who will engage you and help you to think about conservation in a new way. My partner and I heard about this tour + volunteer opportunity from a friend. We had an amazing time with Carlos, our tour guide. The tour was very informative about the current problems facing the birds and monkeys in Costa Rica. We got to ask many questions, and it's obvious that Carlos is very passionate about his work.
Once the tour ended, we got to prep fruits and vegetables for the monkeys and watch them eat. There were 3 kids in our tour group, and they all had fun prepping the food for the monkeys.
This is a MUST DO when you're in Costa Rica. It's only 30 minutes driving distance away from La Fortuna.

We loved our time here. They rescue animals and rehabilitate them (if they can go back into the wild). We loved seeing how well they care for the animals, and it was so fun seeing how thoughtfully they feed them so each of the animals gets their fair share of the food. We prepared their food (cut and measured fresh fruits and veggies), and "packaged" it up for them. We went with our teenaged kids and it was one of the highlights of our entire week in Costa Rica.
They also do virtual tours for schools — we're hoping to arrange for them to do a tour for my son's Spanish class!

Excellent experience! Inspiring work to educate the public and to rehabilitate animals and release them back to the wild. We would strongly recommend visiting both the south tour and the animal rescue center.

We had a great tour along with one other person. It was a very educational experience about the care and rules/regulations of animals in CR. They took the time to answer my many questions. We saw monkeys, macaws, toucans, coati, and a margay. We then prepared food for the animals and made “toys” for the monkeys. We got to feed the monkeys and toucans at the end. If you want to learning about animals in an ethical way this is the activity for you. There are no sloths in the volunteering option because they can be released back into their natural environment once rehabilitated whereas the other animals often come from domestic situations and can’t always go back into nature although to goal is to get them there if possible.

An enriching experience our family will not forget! Carlos was the best host and filled us with loads of information on the work they do at Proyecto Asis. We especially enjoyed the volunteer aspect of the tour and recommend you spend some time there!

I had a wonderful time at Asis. I volunteered for days. Everyone was so nice and I feelt very included in the everyday work with the animals. My hostmum was very sweet and caring. I would definitely recommend going to Asis.

We loved this tour! Our guide Carlos gave us a lot of good information about the care and treatment of the animals at the rescue center. We saw so many beautiful animals and birds. Then we got to put their meal together and feed the monkeys. Well Carlos gave them the food, as we were safely watching. That process was also fun and interesting. I would do this tour again.

Carlos was an awesome tour guide!! Really loved learning about the animals and the rescue. We did this as a family of four (kids 6 and 8). Prepping their food was also a nice activity for our family. Enjoyed seeing also caiman, sloth and herons that love there naturally. Definitely recommend and would do again!
